QUESTION:
Can you tell me why Allah gave me the talent of
singing. I've actually been bothered with
this since as I am a woman it has no function at all
and I can't stop wondering why God
should want to provide me with something so useless as
being able to sing. My husband
is not interested in it at all (I've tried), so I can't
use it for him either.
Obviously there are women that can sing and women that
can't. Why this distinction if it
has no use whatsoever?

ANSWER:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Everyone has some talent or another, something they may excel at more than others. There must be some underlying wisdom behind you being given the ability to sing, which you may not understand now (and/or may never fully understand) but this knowledge lies with Allah (SWT), for truly He knows and understands all.
You could use this talent of yours in a constructive way and make the best of this gift by for example, using it to recite the Qur'an in a beautiful manner (the virtues of which have been stated in many traditions), maybe in a gathering of sisters so that Insha-Allah in this way love for the Qur'an will be created in the hearts of your audiance as hearing the Qur'an recited in a pleasant manner is surely benefitting.
You could also sing anasheeds/naats in sisters only gatherings/conferences, Islamic songs about deen e Islam, Allah Ta'ala, the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, and so forth.
Therefore, do not think any gift Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala has blessed you with as being 'useless', make the best of it, use it in a lawful manner.
Insha-Allah, you find this answer satisfactory...
